What are the benefits?

Xyloproct ointment is a short-term treatment for external piles, which provides effective symptomatic relief. This treatment also comes with an applicator to treat internal haemorrhoids.

What does Xyloproct contain?

Xyloproct ointment contains the two active ingredients lidocaine (5%) and hydrocortisone acetate (0.275%). It also contains aluminium acetate (3.5%), and zinc oxide (18%).

How does it work?

The two active ingredients in Xyloproct, lidocaine and hydrocortisone, contain properties, which help to reduce the uncomfortable symptoms of haemorrhoids. Hydrocortisone is known as a corticosteroid, which when applied on the affected area reduces the swelling and irritation of the piles. Lidocaine works to anaesthetise the affected area, alleviating itching and discomfort.

Who should not use this medication?

This medication is not suitable if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, including local anaesthetics. If you are suffering with skin that is thin or easily damaged, or have an untreated infection, like bacterial, parasite, viral, or fungal infections, then this medication will not be prescribed to you. Xyloproct is considered suitable for use if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding.

How do you use this medication?

Before using and after using this treatment, it is important that you wash your hand. Xyloproct ointment should be used several times daily, with only a small quantity of the ointment applied on the affected area. Xyloproct ointment is for-short term use only.

What are the side effects?

Like all medications there is a risk of side effects when using Xyloproct. However, each person will react differently to the treatment. Side effects with Xyloproct include allergic skin reactions and thinning of the skin that is being treated.
